How do I start the Common App?
To start, applicants can go to commonapp.org and click on the “Apply now” button to get details about how to create an account and log in to work on an application through the platform. Students can download the Common App’s mobile app to keep track of deadlines, invite recommenders and set reminders.
What is common app?
The Common Application is a single online college application form used by over 700 colleges and universities. Instead of filling out the same general information—like your address, GPA, and extracurriculars— a dozen times, you only have to do it once.
How long does Common App account last?
Submitted applications and recommendation forms are not saved from year to year. However, you can always roll your account over if you would like to apply again. Please note that some information, like school-specific questions and recommendations, will not roll over.
What format should a college essay be?
While single-spaced essays are usually acceptable, your essay will be easier to read if it’s 1.5 or double-spaced. Clearly delineate your paragraphs. A single tab at the beginning is fine. Use a font that’s easy to read, like Times, Arial, Calibri, Cambria, etc.
Does common app tell you if you got accepted?
College decisions aren’t released on the common application. Rather, admissions decisions are released in through each of the college’s admission portals that you sign in using a username and password.
Who can see my common app?
You can allow your counselor to see a PDF preview of your in-progress application. Under their name, you can click on the ‘Enable Preview’ button to grant them preview access. Please note that a Counselor cannot edit or change your application in any way; they may only see the answers you have provided.

Does common app delete your account?
Your account won’t be deleted. When the new application is available on August 1, you will be able to roll over your information.
Should I use my school email for common app?
If you are applying to college for the first time you’ll select the “First Year Student” button. Provide your login credentials. Make sure you use an email address you check often. This is the email the Common App and colleges will use to get in touch with you.
Can I log into my old common app?
In order to log in to a previously created account, you must have logged in sometime between August 1, 2019 and July 28, 2020. Otherwise, your account is no longer available.
Does common app save automatically?
You can save and edit your essay as you go. However, there is no automatic save function. So if you write your essay in the application, and your computer suddenly crashes before you’ve saved, you will have lost your work.
