How do I get Med 2?
To obtain this certificate you will need to:
- ShowMeet medical and eyesight requirements.
- ShowProvide evidence of sea service.
- ShowComplete a training course.
- ShowMeet additional requirements.
- ShowPass a final assessment at a registered training organisation.
- ShowComplete and submit a certificate of competency application.
What is a med2?
(Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal) Marine Engine Drivers work in the engine room of a vessel and are in charge of the operation and maintenance of motorised equipment on small commercial vessels. Modern vessel engines are complex and technologically advanced.
What is master5?
Master up to 24 metres (Near Coastal) (previously Master Class 5) course by Maritime and Safety Training allows you the opportunity to command a Marine vessel not exceeding 24 metres in length, operating in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
How much sea time do you need for Master 5?
The applicant must have at least, either: 120 days of qualifying sea service in the 5 years prior to applying for a Certificate of Competency and and completed an approved task book (see AMSA Task Book information).

What do I do with a Med 2 form?
The Med 2 is a receipt for your dental expenses. It is not the claim form. You do not need to send your Med 2 to Revenue, but you should keep it in your records. We may ask you to provide it if we need to check your claim.
How do I claim my Med 2 back?
For dental expenses, you dentist should complete Form Med 2 (pdf) for you to use as a receipt. You can claim tax relief online using Revenue’s myAccount service. Revenue’s myAccount service includes a receipts tracker service which allows you to store your receipt details online.
How do you get Med 3?
You must have completed either:
- 20 days on commercial vessels, including at least 10 days on vessels with inboard diesel engines, with a completed approved task book.
- 60 days, including at least 30 days on vessels with inboard diesel engines, without a task book.
