Does nikwax wash work?
The Nikwax Wash & Waterproofing system is pretty good and easy to use. I have storm coats, jackets and trousers for walking on Dartmoor and have treated them with Nikwax every 6 months for a number of years with results as good as I could hope for.
Does Nikwax go out of date?

Can you use Nikwax TX Direct on softshell?
We recommend Nikwax TX Direct. The spray-on is best. Wash your softshell, but don’t yet dry it. Whilst still damp, hang up your jacket or trousers.
How does TX Direct work?
With the TX. Direct you simply put the jacket/garment in your washing machine, and instead of using detergent you just put this stuff in instead. Nikwax suggests washing out all detergents from the machine first.

Can I wash my Nikwax jacket?
The only precaution I took was to clean out the residue from the detergent tray in the washing machine, as recommended by Nikwax, before sticking the jacket on a cold cycle with a couple of capfuls of Tech Wash. Detergent is not so good for waterproofs.
