Werner Niedermeier Featured

Written by  Dizzy

We work easy together by sending tracks backward and forward. There are some interesting platforms around like Ohm Studio by Ohm Force where I participated in a beta test.

How did you celebrate the new year?

I actually had a very quiet new year. I was in Tokyo over the X-mas and new years period and just spent a good time with the family, traveling and shopping. That break was well needed.

Which labels are you associated with mainly these days, and what are some of the upcoming releases planned?

As always I do a couple of releases for Bulletdodge Records this year. They are supporting me a lot. Big up to the guys. I also just had a recent release on the Parisian label Buena Onda and got signed so far this year on Varoslav's Rue De Plaisance, Tulipa Recordings (USA), Pig & Dan 's Onolog, Asymmetric Recordings and did remixes for Zoe Xenia on Elevation Limited and for Audio Junkies.I've got some requests from some new labels I haven't worked with before, but I don't wanna say to much yet until its a 100%.

You are also part of Soul Camp. How did the connection with Sefty come about, and how do you produce together while living in two different cities?

I've met Sefty in 1997 in Berlin in a Bar in Kreuzberg where we both played at the time. Eventually we became friends and decided to start the project Soul Camp together and the label Soul Camp Recordings which we started in 1999 and stopped in 2003.

Regarding producing, we basically have a similar setup and can therefore work easy together by sending tracks backward and forward. There are some interesting platforms around like i.e. Ohm Studio by Ohm Force where I participated in a beta test and it lets you work parallel with someone else. Once this is fully established it will be even easier to work from different locations at the same time.

Anyway, we're working on some new material at the moment as we had a short break because of family business. Exciting!

What can you tell our readers about your studio set up, and production process?

Not much to tell really. I work with a Mac Book, Logic Pro 9 and Ableton Live and several PlugIns. I like very much the sound of the Arturia synths. I use a MOTU Interphase, Genelec monitors, Mackie mixing desk, an Arturia Midi Controller and a little Korg drum machine. I am thinking about to get a few more hardware bits though. Its more fun I guess...

The process is simple. I often use Live to create a basic idea and then transfer all into Logic Pro to arrange, mix and master the productions.

Who are some of the upcoming talents around catching your attention?

I'm looking a lot to the French market at the moment and there are some really talented guys around. Like for example Ben Vedren, D2B and Master Seb who finally decided after many years of djing to get into producing as well. Another guy I have my eyes on is Narc from Los Angeles. He comes up with some decent minimal and tech house grooves. Also I always have a look on Magit Cacoon's Girl Scout label. Nice releases so far. Will be interesting to see where it all goes.

Artist of the Week: Werner Niedermwier will air Tuesday January 10th at 18:00, with repeats Wednesday at 12:00, and Saturday at 10:00.

In Japan, people are educated to consume. Anyone who has ever been to Tokyo can verify that it is a land of excess convenience – 24 hours of non-stop consuming.

    Get Warm

I am somewhat lazy of nature. Tending to a coal oven doesn’t sound fun to me. And though the cold does keep me moving with music, my other life-skills seem to suffer at it’s hand.

Waking up at quarter to six in the morning feels pretty good. I am sure I could make the same amount of money quicker selling crack rocks, but the manual labor is doing wonders for my health.
