Prior to his appearance Saturday night at the Quiet Riot party in Berlin with Marlow and Iron Curtis, Sweat Lodge Radio features the music of Jimpster this week Tuesday through Saturday.
Where are we catching you and what are you doing right now?
It's a Sunday and had no gigs this weekend so I'm at home in Essex, UK spending some good time with the family for a change and also catching up on some Freerange work after the Christmas break. Lots to do with planning the upcoming releases - the new Manuel Tur LP and new EP's from Alexkid, Mic Newman, Pol_On and chasing up remixes of my recent Alsace & Lorraine track from Ripperton, Josh Wink and Dairmount and Beradi.
We just celebrated the start of the new year. What did you do to celebrate?
I played new years eve and new years day morning at Studio 80 in Amsterdam which was brilliant as the guys running the club are good friends so to celebrate together was a lot of fun. Then I traveled to Madrid to play at Goa later on new years day and it's always a blast playing there. Was a great crowd and excellent atmosphere as always there. Only had a couple at home before heading back to Spain for a big party in La Coruña for the Three Kings day celebrations.
We wanted to ask you about your vision for the Freerange Podcast which airs bi weekly on Sweat Lodge Radio, how you go about it?
It's become a bit of a monster really and we're all shocked about how popular it has become (and how much money it now costs us in bandwidth!!) but we enjoy doing it and it's nice to be able to play music that we might not always get a chance to play in the clubs. It's also an opportunity for us to introduce other artists that might be releasing something on Freerange by way of a guestmix so it works well as a promotional platform too.
In your up coming Berlin gig you will be playing with Marlow and Iron Curtis. In a way it's 3 generations of house producers coming together in this night. What do you think about the new generation of producers coming up now?
Yeah, yeah, I know I'm an old man! thanks for reminding me. ;) I'm very inspired by loads of young up and coming producers these days and totally value the fresh approach and enthusiasm they can bring to house music. I think in many ways it's often up to the young, breakthrough producers to shape the new directions house music takes as they have a willingness to experiment that more established producers can sometimes be lacking. I'm really looking forward to playing with Marlow as I love his recent release on Room With A View and I've met Iron Curtis a couple of times now and is a very nice guy and fantastic producer. I'm sure I'm going to love the music all night.
What's planed for Jimpster in 2011?
I've just finished a new track called Cloudwalking which will be included on the next Freerange colour Compilation as one of the exclusives. I've also just finished a remix of Seal which should be out in April or May. Both of these are up on my Soundcloud if people fancy a listen. I'm working on new Jimpster stuff at the moment which is much more raw sounding than other recent stuff and I'm thinking about going a lot more down the analogue road digging my old keyboards and drum machines out which have been gathering dust the last 5 or 6 years. I'm definitely looking for new ways to get creative and more hands on and live in my studio having been making all my music solely in Logic for quite a few years now.
Artist of the Week: Jimpster will air Tuesday Janurary 11th at 18:00, with repeats Wednesday at 12:00, and Saturday at 10:00.
