If in the past great artists like Bach or Mozart could make you laugh or cry with only a piano partition, it is kind of sad to see so few tracks are worth mentioning.
From Paris to Moscow and now Brussels. You lived in very different cities. Do you believe this influenced your sound and helped create your musical identity of today?
Every city has its vibe. This vibe also changes over time. Living in various places allowed me to incorporate not only sounds, but also traditions and certain feelings about that place at that particular moment of my life. All the above clearly influences the personality and thus has an obvious impact on the musical identity.
I was never a trend follower. I wanted to do my music and incorporate certain existing elements I liked with others that I’ll dig out myself. Traveling but also living in different places opens your mind and I think it is reflected in the music I make.
I get the feeling from some of your recent productions that you are telling a story in each track. Is this a continence and planed decision?
I think you have to be in a certain mood or state of mind to tell a story with music. It is a different way of producing than making 3 dancefloor tracks a week I guess. And it is my way. I like to take time with my music. Like a good dj will tell you a story and play on your feelings throughout his set, I want my tracks to have a meaning.
I usually start from an idea and then kind of let it flow and see where that gets me and if I like what comes of it.
While you need loopy dancefloor tracks, I think there is too little story telling in music going on right now. A lot of artists use the same plugins and loops making tracks in almost industrial way. They have rhythm but no emotion. If in the past great artists like Bach or Mozart for example could make you laugh or cry with only a piano partition, it is kind of sad to see that with limitless possibilities artists have at hand today, so few tracks are worth mentioning.
Whats next on the agenda for you and what releases can we expect in the near future?
2012 will be a hard working year production wise for me. I have just released an EP called “Gone” on Oddvar’s Chocolate and very happy about the feedbacks we got. I hope to be working with Oddvar again soon.
I also have a remix EP for “Love Again” track I did with Lazarusman coming out on Electronical Reeds in February. All remixes are bomb and I cannot thank enough Marcin Czubala, Marquez Ill, Max Duke, Kreiss & GFP and Souldust who did a great job at giving their perspective on what Lazarusman and I did. We are currently getting huge feebacks and support for this release. So, give it a shot when it comes out.
Lazarusman was actually in Brussels early January and we managed to squeeze a recording session of his vocals. I am very happy and excited about what I heard. We will be working together again and should be able to bring some fresh tunes in the near future.
Electronical Reeds will release another EP of mine in April called “Voyage Express”. It features two original tracks, a bit more dancefloor I should say as well. There should be 2 remixes but I can only say for now that Luciano Esse did a splendid job remixing one of tracks. The second remixer is a secret.
More releases are to come in 2012 but I think it is a bit early to reveal them at the moment.
Artist of the Week: Felix Cage will air Tuesday January 24th at 18:00, with repeats Wednesday at 12:00, and Saturday at 10:00.
