Swedish producer The Subliminal Kid speak about his influences and love of history for SLR's Artist of the Week show.
1.How would you describe you musical style?
Well I like to think of it as Techno, but sometimes I wonder of into other directions. I mainly listen to electro-acoustic and African music right now, but I think everything I do and everything I listen is related. It´s all repetitive beats and noise.
2.What's behind the name The Subliminal Kid?
It´s from a William Burroughs novel called Nova Express. Look it up it´s really good!
3.What is the techno scene like now in Sweden?
I would say it´s ok, in Stockholm there are maybe 500 people that really care about it, but they always show up when there is a good party and they are very supportive buying records etc. It´s a small but very familiar scene.
4.What releases are in the pipe from you?
We (Me, Van Rivers & Tony Cederteg) have a new 12" coming up on our label F later this month. It has remixes from Peter Van Hoesen and DVS-1 of the tracks from our first release, originals by up and coming French producer Hanna Sandvik, and the first new track in ages from Stockholm's grand-old-techno-man Tobias von Hofsten. We are very proud of it!
Than I have a remix coming out on Matt O´Brien's label Offkey Industries, I think that should be out in April/May. Also in April is the CD release of my band Roll The Dice album on Digitalis.
5. What's the one thing that's really important to you that people don't know about you yet?
I subscribe to 3 different history magazines.
