Artist of the Week:Filippo Moscatello

Written by  Elie Eidelman
"I want to share the music I love." Filippo Moscatello's one on one with Elie Eidelman in front of his Artist Feature and new show on SLR.

1. After years of being DJ Naughty you moved back to your real name. Why did you do that, and will the Naughty persona come back?

DJ Naughty was created when I started as a Hip Hop DJ back in the 80ies..DJs used to have a nickname.. It was with me the whole time. Since my album Disco Volante (released 2000), I used my real name. After I had enough of Gigolo Records, and all this Electrohype, I wanted to quit with it and decided to use my real name.

Later I moved to Berlin and everybody called me Naughty. Last year I had an artistic crisis, and I decided to quit with Naughty, but it is still a part of me. Now it's a bit confusing because I´m over my crisis and really love makin music again. Now I decided that Naughty is back, but people also know my real name....

2. Your known for you long sets that move seamlessly between House & Disco. Do you find that the crowed today is more open to Disco and Soulful music or do you still have to pump it up when on tour?

It depends how long I play and where, as well as, how open minded the crowd is. My aim is not to be the best, I want to share the music I love, but I know that people want to GO BANG! So..if I play a contemporary House Set I am pretty sure how to rock the place, but it gets more complicated to rock it with old unknown or slow music. Most of the time I succeed, but it's always a big challenge...

3. After a successful full length album on Moodmusic you seem to have chilled a bit on the release side. What surprises do you have in store for the near future?

As I said I had a crisis, most of the music now days was really boring me, and I lost the interest. After I met my radio partner Knüppel and LOUD_E and they gave me back the feeling I had when I was hot for music, I started again to dig for records, find samples etc etc.

Now since I moved to another studio I really feel it again. I made remixes in the last months and they really made me feel good again. I am already making new tracks that will surely find the response that they deserve.

4. You told us here at SLR about your love for the radio format. What is it about Radio that keeps you inspired?

I always wanted to be a radio DJ. I made radio 15 years ago when I lived in Ulm. You can play what you like, say something, and share it with people without meeting them. The people can hear and feel what you are like.

5. Can you tell us a bit about your new live show on SLR and what our listeners and your followers are in for?

Like I said, me and my partner Knüppel aka Daniel Breuer have so much music that we want to share. We invite guets to play their favourite music... Hopefully we can be better with interviews, jingles etc in the future.. We are really having fun with it as you know, and now we have a great spot with the Soju Bar where we wish to hang out with friends and make a live show.

Artist of the Week:Filippo Moscatello will air Tuesday September 28th at 18:00, with repeats Wednesday at 12:00, and Saturday at 10:00.

Yet everywhere I look, in almost every club, it's fucking amateur hour, mixer driven into the red, turned up as loud as possible, monitors never turned down to actually check how the music is sounding out there on the mf dancefloor.
