Artist of the Week:Brendon Moeller

Written by  Elie Eidelman
"I'd like to think that I'm still full of surprises. I'm a work in progress" Brendon Moeller chats with Elie Eidelman for this week's artist feature.

1. Over the years you have released very diverse music and just as diverse labels. Do you think that today there is a distinct sound that you are known for or are you still full of surprises?

I'd like to think that I'm still full of surprises:) I'm a work in progress and I'm as inspired if not more inspired than ever before to experiment and push boundaries. One thing I can say is that I am more focused on getting better DJ gigs, which has made my sound distinctly more "clubby" than before.

2. Your home base is NYC though it seams to the outside observer that most of the labels you work with and the clubs you play at are based in Europe. Do you believe NYC can still be a major player in the dance music community.

Oh yes, NYC is an extremely happening dance music force right now. Some of the most talented producers in the game are operating from NY right now and more and more venues are springing up where dance and electronic producers and DJ's can practice their trade.

3. On a personal note, I am a big fan of your work with some of the great Dub vocalist such as Mikey Dread and Paul St. Hilaire. Can you please tell our listeners about these collaborations, and maybe some insider tips on working with some true rastas?

For me it was a dream come true to have the opportunity to work with these great rasta vocalists. How I made these collaborations happen was respectfully and honestly reaching out via email and telephone. Choosing the right words to inspire accompanied by an offer to remunerate accordingly is the best way to proceed.

4. What can we expect from you release wise in the near future?

I have new releases coming as Echologist on Steadfast and Speedy J's Electric Deluxe imprint, as Brendon Moeller on Delsin and as Beat Pharmacy on Steadfast. I also have some cool remixes on the way that I did for the likes of John Daly, Terence Fixmer and a couple other lesser known folks.

5. Last but not least, please tell us about the mix you made for us.

I made the mix just going through some of the new material I have acquired of late. It's a pretty chilled out smokey mix that was made in one take very spontaneously. I used a laptop running Traktor Pro mixing with an Evolution UC-33 controller.

Artist of the Week:Brendon Moeller will air Tuesday August 24th at 18:00, with repeats Wednesday at 12:00, and Saturday at 10:00.

    Spectacles of the Society
Yes, the spectacle is entertaining, and it definitely draws a crowd. Add to that, the strong human need to want to place things in order. But the notion of the curator as 'taste-maker' remains a bit of a snag.
