Artist of the Week:Aaron Carl

Written by  Gordon

We Are Revolutionising the Movement of Techno and House. Detroit's Aaron Carl interviewed by Gordon Agnew for this week's artist feature starting Tuesday 18:00.

1.You have selected for us 1 hour of your music. With such an impressive amount of releases and remixes in your discography, what can we expect?

Well, let's see. Some surprises. You know I like to play a lot of stuff that nobody else has, obviously. But, because it's a special mix I'll have to make something...something quick for y'all. I like to do that though, so you can have something special from me. A gift, honey *laughs.

2. We Are Revolutionising the Movement of Techno and House (WARMTH), what is the revolution about and can you tell us a bit more about the W.A.R.M.T.H. Sessions?

Well absolutely, the revolution is, well, there's a few definitions for it actually. Um, I grew up when techno was very faceless, very cold. You know a lot of people, especially from here, they wore masks and shit, y'know, "ohh, it's about the music, it's not about who we are". Uh-Uh, I don't play that shit. *laughs.

I don't. It's about family to me. It's about bringing everybody together and I'm kind of the odd ball in Detroit because a lot of people here do techno, but I'm known for my house music. And so, I don't know, I'm used to that house atmosphere where it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, blah blah blah, everybody can come together...so I'm bringing that back...because it's gone, honey, it's gone.

3. What can we expect from Aaron-Carl and the WARMTH family this upcoming year?

You can expect a W.A.R.M.T.H. International tour, dear. Yes, I have assembled a team of DJs, as you know, from various corners of the world and starting in September actually I'll be going all over the place just doing the W.A.R.M.T.H. International parties. Trying to spread the vibe as much as I can. AND, you will be happy to know, I just got a new residence here in Detroit! It's on Thursdays and so we'll have a home to do our warmth international night. Then I can start bringing the other DJs here.  Like, this just happened 2 days ago, I swear! So you are like, THE first person to know that! *laughs.

4. Can you tell us where the new home of the W.A.R.M.T.H. family is?

Well sure, it's an area of Detroit called Downriver, it's actually where I'm from. And if you had to guesstimate, it's between the airport and downtown. So it's really cool because, you know, a lot of the folks from the suburbs, they don't have to go downtown just to get this atmosphere. I like it. And plus, you know, for those who are coming in from other places of the world can just get off the freeway and bam, there it is!

5. Do you have any more plans for European work? Possible some European shows?

Yeah, actually, I start my tour in September, I will be in Berlin (and your ass better be there too, you hear me?!  I mean it!) *laughs. Um, but as far as European work, I work with European artists all the time. Well you know I'm remixing 'When In Rome', right? So I'm very excited about that project.  So, in Berlin I'll be opening up a John Roberts CD release party, so Im very excited because he asked me personally if I would come and sing for him...and I'm going to!
Then I'll be in London in October, then I move to Vienna, I have a date in Toulouse, one in Bordeaux. I'm trying to keep this thing going, baby, yes! Yeah I'll be in Europe probably from September until November before I come home.

Another factor which I feel is vital to a clubs longevity is support of the locals. If the average Berlin party goers like your club, and are in regular attendance then you are on the right track.
