Cocoon's Party Animals by WPP

Written by  Dizzy

Sweat Lodge Radio, What People Play, and Cocoon are giving away 5 copies of Party Animals mixed by Marco Carola & Nick Curly. Tune in Thursday Night for the WPP Podcast.

This year, it's the fourth time that Cocoon Recordings gives a forecast on the upcoming Ibiza Season within the frame of the Summer Mix series. After having such renowned DJs from the likes of Dubfire, Loco Dice, André Galluzzi and Chris Tietjen, the people responsible at Cocoon were able to play another well-known DJ ace from their sleeve: Marco Carola. The Naples-born sustainably brought Italy onto the map of uncompromising Techno with his strictly limited 1000 releases during the Nineties, but is also one of the protagonists of the breakthrough of reduced Techno-Funk, having released on Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 label and his own platform Domestic.Minimal.Noise over the last years. With his mix, Carola illustrates the perfect party night on Amnesia's main floor in a sultrily percussive but always sexy and elegant form of Minimal Funk. In particular, Marco Carola gives a major platform to artists who are not so well-known in Germany so far, like the Spaniard Kobaalt or the Reisak Corporation from Venice. However, his finale totally makes you throw your arms in the air with some familiar tracks by Martin Buttrich ("Hoochie Mama") und Layo & Bushwacka ("The Longest Day", here in the Audiofly remix).

Out in the fresh air is then the motto of DJ and producer Nick Curly from Mannheim who is responsible for the second CD. As he has already proved with his productions for Plastic City, 8 Bit, Cocoon and especially for his own label Cécille Records, which he runs together with Marc Scholl, he is also a DJ who stands for the powerful rejuvenation of deep House. With his impressively energetic set, Curly demonstrates that soulful vocals do not necessarily contravene a clearly structured sound pattern. In that sense, the percussive Power House of "Get Your Space" by producer team Phil Weeks vs. Krakatao from Paris/Turin on Weeks' hot label Robsoul sets the direction for the journey very quickly and a multi-layer mix with jazzy inserts like Gorge ("Makena"), dubby excursions like Horacio ("Taberna del Funk"), Butch's sample-loving wildpitch reminiscence orgy "No Worries" or Curly's own brand new Disco Funk slammer "Keep On" gives eloquent evidence of the fact that, also in its eleventh season in Ibiza, Cocoon can't go without modern House. And so, only both sets together are able to exemplarily explore the musical variety of Cocoon 2010 in all its dimensions.

To win your free CD copy, send your name and address to the Sweat Lodge Radio info mail with 'Party Animals' in the message subject. Winners will be notified.
