Christian Martin on Jackmode

Written by  Dizzy

"I became obsessed with electronic music in 95/96, thanks to desert raves and LTJ Bukem’s Logical Progression comp." Christian Martin Saturday night at 22:00 on the Jackmode Show.

Who are you?

My name is Christian Martin. You keel my father. Prepare to die.

What do you do?

I produce and DJ bass-heavy tech house, both solo and with my brother Justin (as The Martin Brothers).

Where are you from?

Born in Connecticut, living in San Francisco since 2000.

What is your musical background?

I started taking piano lessons when I was 5, moving through classical standards and eventually into jazz theory. I became obsessed with electronic music in 1995/96, thanks to desert raves and LTJ Bukem’s Logical Progression comp. I learned to DJ in 2003 and began producing shortly thereafter.

What are the top 5 most played tracks on your iPod?

I recently deleted all the music on my iPhone just so I could add the Super Disco Hyphy mix by DJ B.Cause. (http://www.mixcrate.com/mix/5658/DJ-BCause-Super-Disco-Hyphy) Before that I was cranking Yelawolf’s “Trunk Muzik”,  the new Big Boi album, and all music from a French dubstep producer named “F”.

Which is the track that you most wished you had produced yourself?

Footcrab footcrab footcrab foot f-f-f-footcrab.  Such a heavy track on a good soundsystem.

What do you have going on for the rest of 2010?

My remix of Darling Farah – “Berline” will be out October 4 on Civil Music. After that there’s my remix of Underworld’s “Always Loved a Film,” and a Martin Brothers remix of Riva Starr & Major Lazer’s “Jump”. As far as the clubs, our final dirtybird quarterly party is this Friday in San Francisco: www.going.com/dirtybird The next day, I head to Chicago with Worthy to play at Smartbar. I’ll be home for a few weeks working on new originals, then I’m headed to Europe for a month of gigs, starting at the Social Club in Paris on October 23rd. Looking forward to upcoming Jackmode nights in Berlin & London!! ;-).

What has been your best experience as a DJ?

Without a doubt, playing at the dirtbird BBQ in Golden Gate Park! The best crowd, the best food, & killer sound in the middle of a meadow!

Who was your hero growing up and why?

Both my parents, because they made travelling a priority for our family as I was growing up.

What are your top 10 fav tracks at the moment?

1.Christian S – Jagos [Comeme Records]
2.Tanz Tanz – Okay (Christian Martin remix) [Poor Records]
3.Soul Clap - Break for Life [Crosstown Rebels]
4.Ramadanman – Grab Somebody [Hessle Audio]
5.Green Velvet – Percolator (Claude VonStroke remix) [Cajual]
6.Lee Curtiss – Disco Dub [Get Physical]
7.Justin Martin & Ardalan – Mr. Spock [dirtybird]
8.FaltyDL – Endeavor [Planet Mu]
9.Phoenix – Liztomania (Classixx remix) [Kitsune]
10.Riva Starr & Major Lazer – Jump (The Martin Brothers remix) [Snatch]

Oliver Koletzki is a good friend of mine and I've collaborated with his label since the beginning. I also did his latest album-cover. Collecting records is my new passion, that's why I like designing record covers.

    Get Warm

I am somewhat lazy of nature. Tending to a coal oven doesn’t sound fun to me. And though the cold does keep me moving with music, my other life-skills seem to suffer at it’s hand.
